1. Our Data Sources

Vehicle data reports generated through our Website are compiled from multiple third-party data sources. We aggregate and present data from the following sources to provide a comprehensive overview of a vehicle's recorded history:

1.1 NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration)

NHTSA is a federal agency within the US Department of Transportation responsible for vehicle safety. We access vehicle data through NHTSA's public APIs, which provide information including but not limited to:

Data from NHTSA is provided in real-time at the point of your lookup. However, there may be delays between a recall or safety issue being reported and that information being reflected in NHTSA data. NHTSA does not guarantee the accuracy or completeness of data provided through its APIs.

1.2 NMVTIS (National Motor Vehicle Title Information System)

NMVTIS is a federal database operated under the US Department of Justice that provides title, brand, and theft data for vehicles. We access NMVTIS data through authorized data providers, which provides information including:

Title history from participating state DMVs
Title brand information (salvage, rebuilt, flood, junk, etc.)
Odometer readings recorded at title transfers
Total loss records from insurance carriers
Junk and salvage yard records

Limitations of NMVTIS data:

Not all states report to NMVTIS in real-time; there may be delays between title events and their appearance in the system.
NMVTIS records may not include all historical title events, particularly for older vehicles or events that occurred before a state began reporting.
Odometer readings are recorded as stated at the time of title transfer and are not independently verified.
NMVTIS does not capture the vehicle's mechanical condition, any repairs carried out, or the vehicle's service history.

1.3 Licensed Commercial Data Providers

For our Full and Premium reports, we access additional vehicle data through licensed commercial data providers and other authorized data partners. These providers aggregate data from a range of sources to supply information that may include:

Vehicle specification data (dimensions, performance, equipment)
Valuation estimates and market data
VIN decoding and build data
Ownership change history (number of previous owners, not personal details)
Vehicle images and technical illustrations

Commercial data providers source their data from manufacturers, industry databases, government agencies, and proprietary datasets. While these providers take steps to ensure data quality, the accuracy and completeness of their data is subject to the limitations of their own sources and update schedules.

1.4 Vehicle Data Intelligence (VDI) Checks — Premium Reports

Our Premium reports include a Vehicle Data Intelligence (VDI) check, which searches specialist databases for recorded markers against the vehicle. The VDI check covers:

Stolen vehicle records: Whether the vehicle has been reported as stolen to law enforcement agencies via the National Crime Information Center (NCIC).
Outstanding liens: Whether there are any recorded lien holders or finance agreements registered against the vehicle.
Salvage and total loss records: Whether the vehicle has been declared a total loss by an insurance company following an accident, flood, fire, or theft recovery, resulting in a salvage or rebuilt title brand.
Title brand history: Whether the vehicle's title has been branded (e.g., salvage, rebuilt, flood, lemon law), which could indicate significant prior damage or defects.
Junk/scrap markers: Whether the vehicle has been reported to a junk or salvage yard.
Imported/exported markers: Whether the vehicle has been recorded as imported into or exported from the United States.
Odometer discrepancy alerts: Whether recorded odometer readings show inconsistencies that may indicate the odometer has been tampered with (odometer rollback).

2. Data Accuracy and Completeness

We do not independently modify, alter, verify, or guarantee the accuracy, completeness, reliability, or currency of the data presented in our reports. We present data as received from our third-party sources. Specifically:

We act as a data aggregator and presentation layer. Our role is to compile data from multiple sources into a single, easy-to-read report. We do not independently investigate or verify the underlying data.

The absence of a marker (for example, no stolen vehicle record or no outstanding finance record) does not guarantee that the vehicle is free from such issues. 4. Recommendation: Independent Vehicle Inspection

We strongly recommend that you always obtain an independent professional vehicle inspection before making any decision to purchase a used vehicle. A qualified vehicle inspector or mechanic can identify mechanical issues, structural damage, paint defects, and other problems that cannot be detected through a data report alone.

Organizations such as AAA, Dekra, and certified ASE mechanics offer professional vehicle inspection services throughout the United States. An independent inspection, combined with a vehicle history report, provides a more complete picture of a vehicle's condition and history than either resource alone.

In addition to a professional inspection, we recommend:

Verifying the vehicle's identity by checking the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the vehicle matches the title and our report.
Confirming the seller's identity and checking that their details match the vehicle's title.
Viewing and test-driving the vehicle in person before purchasing.
Checking the vehicle's service history with original documentation where possible.

5. Limitations of VDI and Premium Checks

While the Vehicle Data Intelligence (VDI) check included in our Premium report queries specialist databases for theft, finance, write-off, and other markers, it is important to understand the inherent limitations of these checks:

Stolen vehicle records are dependent on the vehicle having been reported as stolen to a law enforcement agency that records the information on the National Crime Information Center (NCIC). Vehicles stolen but not yet reported, or reported to non-participating agencies, may not appear in the database.
Outstanding lien records are compiled from information provided by participating lenders and title agencies. Not all lenders register their liens with the databases we query, and some smaller or private lenders may not be included. Private loans secured against a vehicle, or lien agreements with non-participating lenders, will not be detected.
Salvage and total loss records depend on the insurer or state DMV recording the event with NMVTIS or other industry databases. Vehicles that were totaled but not claimed on insurance, or where the insurer or state did not report the event, will not appear.
Odometer data is compiled from title transfer records, inspection records, and other sources where mileage was recorded. Odometer rollback (odometer fraud) that occurs between recorded readings may not be detected. The absence of an odometer discrepancy flag does not guarantee the odometer reading is genuine.
A clear VDI check does not guarantee that the vehicle is entirely free from undisclosed issues. It confirms only that no adverse markers were found in the specific databases queried at the time of the check. Issues not recorded in these databases, or recorded after the check was performed, will not be reflected in the report.

6. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law:

Our reports are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We make no representations or warranties of any kind, express or implied, regarding the accuracy, completeness, reliability, suitability, or availability of the data in our reports.
We shall not be liable for any loss or damage whatsoever, including without limitation, indirect, consequential, or incidental loss or damage, or any loss or damage arising from the use of, or reliance upon, the information provided in our reports.
We shall not be liable for any decisions made or actions taken based on the information in our reports, including but not limited to the purchase of a vehicle.
Our total aggregate liability in connection with any report shall not exceed the amount you paid for that report.

NHTSA provides data through its public APIs under applicable federal government terms of service.
NMVTIS provides title and brand data under the Anti Car Theft Act and its own terms of access.
State DMVs provide data under their respective state laws and data access agreements.
Commercial data providers supply data under their respective licensing agreements and terms of service. We are authorized to present their data within our reports, but the accuracy and completeness of that data is the responsibility of the originating provider.
